April Product Launches

April's name likely derives from the Latin aperire, meaning "to open," fitting its role as the start of spring's blossoming. Another less certain theory links it to the Greek goddess Aphrodite.

In the original Roman calendar, April (Aprilis) was the second month. It initially had 29 days but was changed to 30 in the Julian calendar. Agriculturally significant for planting, April hosted festivals like the Parilia and Cerealia. Unlike some months, April's name and calendar position have remained largely unchanged since Roman times.

April Today

April in the US is the heart of spring, marked by nature's renewal, warmer weather, and longer days, encouraging outdoor activities. Key observances include Easter, Earth Day, April Fools' Day, Passover, and Arbor Day. It's a major financial period with Tax Day.

April is also a hub for cultural and social awareness, including Autism Acceptance Month, Arab American Heritage Month, Financial Literacy Month, Month of the Military Child, National Poetry Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Alcohol Awareness Month, and Jazz Appreciation Month. Overall, April is a vibrant month of renewal, observances, financial responsibilities, and diverse awareness campaigns.

The April Zodiac

In Western astrology, April encompasses two zodiac signs:

Aries (March 21 - April 19), symbolized by the Ram (♈), a cardinal fire sign ruled by Mars, known for enthusiasm, courage, and leadership, but also impulsivity; and Taurus (April 20 - May 20), symbolized by the Bull (♉), a fixed earth sign ruled by Venus, known for being grounded, reliable, and appreciating sensory pleasures, but also potentially stubborn. Therefore, April-born individuals are either Aries or Taurus based on their birth date.

The April Birthstone

April's birthstone is the diamond, derived from the Greek word for "invincible," reflecting its hardness. Formed from carbon deep within the Earth under immense pressure over billions of years, diamonds were first found in India around the 4th century BCE and valued for their durability and beauty.

Historically symbols of power and healing, diamonds became prominent as engagement rings after the 15th century, solidified by 20th-century advertising. While India was the initial source, major discoveries occurred in Brazil and South Africa, leading to today's global market with sources in Russia, Canada, and Africa.

A diamond's value is judged by the "Four Cs": carat, cut, color, and clarity. Today, it symbolizes eternal love, commitment, purity, strength, and invincibility and is a traditional gift for 60th and 75th anniversaries. White sapphire is sometimes an alternative.
