March Product Launches

March, named after the Roman god of war Mars, was originally the first month of the Roman calendar, marking the start of the military campaigning and agricultural season.

While January later became the official start of the Roman civil year in 153 BCE and Julius Caesar's Julian calendar solidified this, many cultures continued to celebrate the new year in March for centuries.

March Today

March in the US is a transitional month between winter and spring, marked by changing weather, cultural observances, and anticipation for warmer days. The vernal equinox around March 19th-21st signifies the start of astronomical spring with longer days. Weather can be unpredictable, as described by "in like a lion, out like a lamb."

Key celebrations include St. Patrick's Day (March 17th), International Women's Day (March 8th), and the start of Daylight Saving Time. Religious observances like Lent, Purim, Holi, and Ramadan may also occur in March.

The month highlights Women's History, Irish-American Heritage, and Developmental Disabilities Awareness, along with National Nutrition Month and Read Across America Day (March 2nd). Pi Day is observed on March 14th.

Sports are dominated by "March Madness," and many schools have spring break. Overall, March is a lively period of transition and various cultural and awareness events.

The March Zodiac

In Western astrology, March includes two zodiac signs:

Pisces (February 19 - March 20), symbolized by the Fish (♓), a mutable water sign ruled by Neptune and Jupiter, known for compassion, artistry, empathy, and intuition; and Aries (March 21 - April 19), symbolized by the Ram (♈), a cardinal fire sign ruled by Mars, known for enthusiasm, pioneering spirit, courage, and directness. Therefore, those born in March are either dreamy Pisces or bold Aries.

The March Birthstone

March has two birthstones: the primary Aquamarine and the secondary, traditional Bloodstone.

Aquamarine, from Latin meaning "water of the sea," is a blue to blue-green beryl whose color comes from iron. Revered by ancient sailors for good luck and protection, it was also believed to heal and preserve youth. Associated with clarity, purity, and foresight, it is sourced mainly from Brazil, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Madagascar, and Africa. Today, aquamarine symbolizes calmness, clarity, harmony, and safe travels, and is the 19th anniversary gift.

Bloodstone, a dark green chalcedony with red spots of iron oxides, resembles drops of blood. Also called heliotrope, ancient warriors valued it for courage and protection. Christian legend links its red spots to Christ's crucifixion, making it popular for religious carvings. Historically used medicinally to stop bleeding, sources include India, Australia, Brazil, and the US. Today, bloodstone symbolizes courage, vitality, healing, and grounding.

While Aquamarine is the modern primary March birthstone, Bloodstone retains historical and symbolic importance.
