September Product Launches

September's name originates from the Latin "septem," meaning "seven," reflecting its place as the seventh month in the original Roman calendar, which started with March. Although January and February were later added, making September the ninth month in the Julian and Gregorian calendars, it kept its numerical name.

Initially having 29 days, Julius Caesar fixed its length at 30 days. September held agricultural importance for the Romans, particularly for the grape harvest. Despite attempts to rename it, its original name persisted through the adoption of the Gregorian calendar.

September Today

September in the US marks the transition from summer to autumn, ending vacation season and resuming routines, especially for students and workers. Key aspects include: the unofficial end of summer signified by Labor Day; the back-to-school season and the start of fall sports; commemoration of Patriot Day, Constitution Day, and POW/MIA Recognition Day; national awareness campaigns for preparedness, suicide prevention, recovery, childhood cancer, and Hispanic heritage; and the initial signs of autumnal changes like cooler temperatures and changing foliage, bridging summer relaxation with the structured autumn.

The September Zodiac

In Western tropical astrology, September encompasses two zodiac signs.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22), symbolized by the Maiden and an Earth sign with Mutable quality, is ruled by Mercury. Virgos are analytical, practical, detail-oriented, hardworking, and strive for perfection, but can be critical and worry easily.

Libra (September 23 - October 22), symbolized by the Scales and an Air sign with Cardinal quality, is ruled by Venus. Libras desire balance, harmony, and justice, and are diplomatic and social, though they can be indecisive. Therefore, September-born individuals are either Virgo or Libra.

The September Birthstone

September's traditional and modern birthstone is Sapphire, a blue variety of the mineral corundum, historically associated with royalty, wisdom, truth, and fidelity. Its name originates from Greek and Latin words meaning "blue."

Ancient Persians believed the Earth rested on a sapphire, Greeks wore it for guidance, and early Christians associated it with heaven. Famous sapphires include Princess Diana's engagement ring. Historically sourced from Kashmir, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar, today Madagascar is a leading producer.

While most known for its deep blue color, sapphires occur in various "fancy" colors. Ranking 9 on the Mohs scale, sapphire is a durable gemstone. This timeless and valued gem, rich in history and symbolism, is a meaningful birthstone for September.
